FABRICATION

There are few windows beyond restoration.  We love windows with flaking paint, wear, and rot.  They are perfect for restoration and bringing them back to their former glory.  We use heat and steam to remove paint and glazing paired with long oil primer and wood preservative and linseed oil based putty to breathe new life in what others may want to replace.

The character of an old home is in it’s features and nothing sparkles brighter than the subtle waves, amazing colors and patterns from the turn of the century. We work to save this glass whenever possible using a museum grade epoxy to fuse broken panes. When the glass must be replaced, we work with our clients to find the right match to blend old and new.

When the original window is replaced or restoration is no longer an option, we use the same traditional mortise and tenon joinery methods to build replica sash and window units.  Our millwork shop takes pride in producing windows without glue or screws.  The process may take a little longer to create something that will last for decades to come.

Wood doors are a honor to bring back to life for decades of continued service. We respect the craftsperson who came before and make sure their legacy continues for future generations.

When restoration is no longer an option or the original was replaced, we work with our clients to design and custom build exterior doors from African mahogany or reclaimed cypress.

Caring for Wood Windows and Doors Since 2018

Our story started like many of our customers, we’re owners of a historic home built in 1908 with beautiful windows needing love. What started as a project to care for our own home transformed into NOLA Wood Windows. We are honored to have the privilege to care for the old homes that make New Orleans like no other city.

We’re small shop and dedicated to what we do. We take pride in respecting the workmanship of the original craftsmen continuing to use the tried and true methods of the past. Our process takes time and we appreciate our customers who are willing to wait for quality and professional work.

WHAT OUR CLIENTS SAY

They take great care to keep what is possible in order to maintain the character of the house and recreate  when it is not. The amount of compliments that we receive from neighbors and friends regarding our doors and windows that Gus and Val restored for us is ridiculous! Even strangers' comment on how great they look! We have recommended NOLA Wood Windows to anyone who asks.

We are so happy with the work done by Nola Wood Windows. Scheduling with Val was a breeze and Gus is so friendly and professional. He even cheerfully worked in the heat of summer to get our door redone and fitted as quickly as possible. They are not satisfied until everything is perfect!

- Kelly

Val and Gus were great walking us through the process of licensing with the city and VCC. They were very accommodating to our circumstances and helped us pick hardware to make them open safely for our young son. We would recommend NOLA Wood Windows for all of your window restoration needs.

- Autumn & Gary

This is the place to come to if you want experts to repair your wooden windows, or if you want to do it yourself. I reglazed about 100 panes on a 19th-century double-shotgun and visited Val many times to buy Sarco glazing putty, which is far and away the best to use in the humid climate of New Orleans. Each time I stopped by, I had questions for Val on how to do use it properly or how to glaze windows, and she patiently answered all of them, giving me all the advice I needed to confidently do the job myself.

- John

I found NOLA Wood Windows by attending their class at the Preservation Resource Center (PRC) where I know only the Best are allowed to teach.
So far they have created from scratch 3 windows. I expect they will continue to inspect and restore all the wood windows of my 104 year old Arts and Crafts Bungalow.
Easy to work with, talented and professional I give them the Highest ratings!

- Marlane

Gus replaced the glass, sill and the sash in/around our very large window in the front of our 110 yr old home. Repainting the wood slats, with a flawless paint match was a super bonus. You can tell he loves what he does and working on these old homes with pride and that special touch that require.

I would highly recommend Gus & Val. The attention to detail is so refreshing!!
